A recently inaugurated center located in a building in the the UPR-Mayagüez Engineering Complex. Its flagship is a high resolution JEOL 2100F Field Emission Transmission Electron Microscope that is capable of capturing images with atomic resolution in Scanning Transmission Mode, Elemental Analysis through Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy, and Dark Field Imaging. This instrument is the only one of its kind on the western side of the island that is open to researchers from the university and the industry alike. The center will also soon house a Phi-Versa X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometer and an Infrared Variable Angle Spectroscopic Ellipsometer. The center charges a competitive fee for analysis of the samples and during fiscal year 2015-2016 will analyze the first sample of a project free as a promotion of its services.
